E-bikes in Hamburg: providers, costs and regulations

In the last few years, e-scooters have become somewhat ubiquitous on Hamburg’s streets, as have other modes of transport ‘sharing’, such as car sharing and bike sharing. Recently, e-bikes have also become quite popular, with several companies emerging to provide Hamburg’s residents and visitors with plentiful e-bike sharing options.

Lime

Lime has been offering app-enabled e-scooters rentals in Hamburg since mid-2019, and more recently, they have expanded to e-bikes as well. Lime's e-bikes can reach a top speed of 25 kilometres per hour, meaning you’ll get where you need to go quite quickly. Riders are charged per minute, but a daily subscription is also possible.

In addition, proof of at least a class M driver’s licence must be provided and riders must stay in the street, rather than the bike lanes or sidewalks. The e-bikes can be booked using the Free Now mobility platform app or the Bond app.
