Live Music and Nightlife in Hamburg

Hamburg is widely known as one of the party capitals of Northern Europe. Since The Beatles started their career in Hamburg, there have always been numerous prestigious clubs and bars around the Reeperbahn and Schanzenviertel areas. There is always something going on, no matter if it's rock, pop, jazz or electronic music you're looking for.

Live Music

At clubs such as Hafenklang, Molotow, Knust, Astra Stube, Fabrik or Logo there is live music most nights of the week. Performances represent the abundance of up-and-coming local artists or big international names, who all see Hamburg as a must-do on their tour schedule. With this many quality features at hand, audiences in Hamburg are hard to please. If you manage to win them over, you know you can make it big.

Summer, of course, is festival season. Wacken Open Air, the biggest and best-known heavy metal festival in the World, as well as Hurricane, Dockville, Reeperbahn, Summer's Tale and Deichbrand Festivals all take place in and around Hamburg.

If you are more on the electronic side of things, DJs will make you dance the night away at iconic clubs such as Goldener Pudel (closed until further notice), Mojo or Waagenbau.

Music Industry

In Hamburg, music is more than a spare time activity. Its economical potential has long been discovered. Next to the many clubs and bars that make a living from live music, the industry has developed an extensive array of labels, music promoters, booking agencies, gear and record stores. A favourite record store with locals, Hanseplatte at Schanzenviertel, specialises on records by local artists, and thus gives the perfect chance to dive into the city's exciting and vibrant music scene. Bars

If you're just out for a drink in a cozy bar or pub, the Schanzenviertel is your best bet. This area is where you'll meet the locals and it is a little quieter than the Reeperbahn, Hamburg’s prime nightlife spot with its multitude of bars, clubs and erotic shows. It is hardly surprising that Reeperbahn is also a very popular location for stag nights. After a long night out, many choose to welcome the next morning by the Elbe river or, on Sundays, at the Fischmarkt market.
