Day Trips Karl May Festival
In summer, Bad Segeberg celebrates Karl May's Wild West in an open air extravaganza with an amazing backdrop of cliffs and caves!
Karl May Festival
Open Air Theatre
Held every year in the town of Bad Segeberg, the Karl May Fest celebrates the works of author Karl May’s adventure stories.
Taking place in an open-air theatre, the Karl May Fest in Bad Segeberg is one of the leading festivals celebrating the author's imaginative Wild West stories. Featuring well-known actors in prominent roles, the Karl May Fest has grown in popularity, with thousands of visitors flocking to see the plays each year. After a mere one hour's drive form Hamburg, you'll be sure to enjoy a short holiday in the Wild West. Your kids will love every second of it.
First staged in 1952, the Karl May Fest puts on a different play every year. The plays are adventure stories, set in the Wild West ─ this year’s story is ‘Unter Geiern’, an action-packed story of a young gunslinger and an Apache chief working together to ward off a gang of corrupted Sioux.
Explore Bad Segeberg
When the play is over, visitors can also explore the ‘Indian Village’ next to the open-air theatre, allowing them to dive right into the Wild West ─ it can even be hired out for your own event! In the nearby ‘Nebraska House’, there is an exhibition named ‘The World of the Indians’, displaying many Wild West treasures, from rawhide items to beaded moccasins.
For those wishing to explore the city a bit more, the Karl-May-City-Express train will take guests on a ride to the spa town of Bad Segeberg, where they can explore all the exciting and relaxing opportunities it has to offer.
