Ice Skating in Hamburg

No matter your grace or skill level, a trip to the ice skating rink is always a fun winter activity. Hamburg boasts several indoor and outdoor arenas that are open to skaters of all levels. What’s more, most rinks offer special events like disco nights, curling matches and ladies’ nights. Ice skates are available for rent at all locations. Don’t forget to bring gloves!

EisArena Hamburg

This popular ice skating rink is beautifully located in the middle of Planten un Blomen park. The size of three ice hockey rinks, EisArena Hamburg is the city's largest open-air ice skating location. Warm up with hot chocolate at the cafe or go for a hearty meal at the adjacent restaurant. Special events include live DJ music on Friday and Saturday nights, open training sessions on Thursdays between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. and a Ladies’ Night every two weeks.

Wandsbeker Winterzauber

Discover a winter-wonderland at Wandsbeker Marktplatz square, where cosy cottages invite visitors to indulge in baked treats and mulled wine. At the centre of it all is the ice skating rink, surrounded by Christmas trees with twinkling fairy lights. Music rounds out the romantic atmosphere.

HafenCity Eisvergnügen

At the HafenCity Christmas market, young ice princes and princesses get to skate for free! Of course, everyone over the age of 18 is welcome too. Plus, take a break to enjoy the mulled wine at the Christmas market. Curling matches are on every evening.

Scandinavian Winter Market

Up for an active afternoon on the ice? Head over to Rindermarkthalle where five curling tracks await — no ice skates needed. After the match, the cosy winter market is a lovely treat: browse booths with handicrafts and snacks or gather round the campfire and admire St. Pauli’s largest Christmas tree.

q.beyond Arena

The q.beyond Arena at the sprawling Altonaer Volkspark contains a large, indoor ice skating rink where ice hockey, figure skating and curling teams train. On weekend afternoons from August to May, the ice rink is open to the public. What’s more, thrill-seekers can try their hand at curling on every second Thursday of the month.

Eisbahn Stellingen

This semi-covered ice arena in Hamburg’s northwest is the home base of the HSV ice hockey team. When the team is not training or playing a match, the ice field is open to the public. Check the website for current opening hours and match schedules.

Eisland Farmsen

This indoor ice skating rink is located in the green suburbs of Hamburg’s east. At a temperature of 11°C, skaters of all levels are invited to twirl away. On Saturdays from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. it’s disco time: strut your dance moves on the ice, accompanied by music and laser lights.
