Every summer, the world's elite tennis players meet in Hamburg for an international tennis tournament. The German Open have now been replaced by the Hamburg European Open, taking place at the Rothenbaum tennis stadium. Located by the Outer Alster lake, the prestigious event looks back on more than 100 years of tradition. In 2017, a total of 60,000 spectators came and witnessed the hard-fought German Open matches in Germany's largest tennis stadium.
In the not-so-distant past, players like Roger Federer and Raphael Nadal were just some international stars that have competed for the coveted ATP points. The most prominent names of 2019 so far are: Philipp Kohlschreiber, Fabio Fognini and Dominic Thiem.
