After coming to Hamburg's Öjendorfer park for 25 years, the Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum now takes place in the small town of Salzhausen. The otherwise quiet green area is turned into a bustling medieval camp with more than 3000 contributors. From mead and meat to medieval handicraft and clothing, more than a hundred different merchants offer their goods to the visiting masses, making this the single-biggest Medieval festival in the world. In addition, the weekend will be packed with events, from jugglers and acrobats to more than 20 different musical acts like Saltatio Mortis and Fiddler’s Green.
Knights in Shining Armour
Among the highlights of every Spectaculum are without a doubt the knight’s tourneys, in which lance and sword-carrying participants joust and duel for the win. Witness the fascinating action of knights racing their horses towards each other at full speed! In addition, the festival will offer plenty more to see and do: between paying a visit to the bath house and shooting arrows at the archery stands, you can take part in a bagpipe class or attend a falconry show. The creativity with which both crew and visitors dress up in medieval and fantasy-themed costumes is another major draw ... and the most dedicated don’t only dress the part but also reenact the harsh life of people during the Middle Ages.
