Up for some Sunday afternoon shopping? On four Sundays per year, Hamburg's shopping streets, passages and malls bustle with activity. Participating shops open their doors from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m — perfect for a shopping spree after a lazy, Sunday brunch. These festive occasions always coincide with city fairs and festivals, and are highlighted by music shows and special exhibitions.

Shops always open on Sundays
By law, most shops in Hamburg are required to remain closed on Sundays. Kiosks, petrol stations, pharmacies and shops near public transportation hubs — train stations, airports, ports — are exempted and may continue sales on Sunday. The 40 shops of the Wandelhalle at Hamburg Central Station are open for 365 days a year, for instance. And of course, there is the legendary Sunday Fischmarkt where early birds can haggle over kilos of fish, vegetables and fruit until 9:30 a.m. In short, there's no need to panic over a missing carton of milk on a Sunday!
Note: Please be aware that due to the ongoing COIVD-19 coronavirus pandemic, the Sunday Fischmarkt remains closed until further notice.
