Winter Dom 2021 returned with a ‘2G’ safety model
Roasted almonds, roasted sausages and mulled wine: the winter 2021 edition of the traditional Hamburg festival returned from 5 November to 5 December 2021 under ‘2G’ safety conditions on the Heiligengeistfeld, meaning all visitors had to be either vaccinated (‘geimpft’ in German) or recovered from COVID-19 (‘genesen’). This means there was no need for mask requirements or visitor restrictions at DOM. Unlike during Summer DOM 2021, a DOM ticket with a firmly booked time slot was no longer required. Spontaneous DOM visits were therefore possible at any time during opening hours and without time limits, provided that the 2G conditions were complied with and visitors were prepared to prove their vaccination or recovery status.
Visitors who had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or had fully recovered from COVID-19 could enter Winter DOM. At the three entrances of St. Pauli, Messehallen and Feldstrasse, proof of 2G status (including an official identification document such as driver's license, photo ID or passport) were checked. Contact tracing was guaranteed with a check-in via the Luca app. Visitors without a smartphone or who had not downloaded the app could register using several on-site terminals. Children and young people under 18 years of age were exempt from the 2G obligation to provide evidence; however teens had to be able to present proof of age at the check-in point upon request.
Some hygiene measures that proved successful during Summer DOM 2021 remained in place. There were again disinfection stations at each stand and additional hand washing opportunities in front of the toilet areas.
Winter DOM 2021 attractions
Around 200 attractions filled Winter DOM with thrills and chills, romantic moments, and delicious distractions. Wild Mouse, Rock & Roller Coaster and Crazy Mouse (complete with rotating gondolas) meant there were three roller coasters with high highs and low dips for the whole family.
Laser Pix is still quite new to Hamburg DOM, with this only having been its second appearance. The interactive shooter brings Nintendo classics like Donkey Kong or Pacman back to life. Whoever hits the most targets on the journey has won the duel. Visitors looking for action could find it in spades with Mach 1 (with a speed of 125 km/h), Voodoo Jumper (with a stunning free-fall effect), or giant swing Best XXL Exclusive (with an altitude of 45 meters).
Young and old alike had a blast in the fun houses Happy Family and Fuzzy’s Salmon Saloon. The ascent to the top floor is peppered with plenty of wild obstacles and fun challenges. A contemplative ride in the 55 meter high ferris wheel is just as much a part of a stroll through the DOM as a bag of fried dough or freshly roasted almonds. And of course mulled wine and other tasty warm drinks were also be enjoyed plentifully at the Winter Dome 2021.
