Winter DOM 2020 - The latest news on DOM and COVID-19

!!! UPDATE: the next Winter DOM has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic !!!

Prerequisites for Winter DOM 2020

Both the spring and summer editions of North Germany’s largest funfair had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the Winter DOM, a comprehensive hygiene and safety concept was developed so visitors can enjoy the festival without constant worry of a Corona outbreak on the premises. The concept is yet to be approved by city authorities, and there is still the possibility of short-notice cancellation if infection rates rise dramatically before 6 November, but with a little luck and lots of personal responsibility, the DOM can be held as planned.

The safety and hygiene concept includes the following measures:

  • In years past, the DOM could be entered through 13 different entrances. In 2020, there will be only three central entrances on the site. Exits will be located separately to create a one-way system and to allow for controlled admission.
  • Winter DOM 2020’s maximum occupancy will be set at 6,000, helping organisers ensure sufficient space for all visitors.
  • Special arrangements will prevent queues from forming in front of rides and attractions.
  • Alcohol will not be sold in the event area.

The area has been under construction since 16 October, with 6 November as the anticipated opening day.

Public festival with plenty of tradition

Three times a year, the DOM funfair takes place on Heiligengeistfeld. The festival dates back to the 11th century and is now the largest funfair in North Germany. Millions of visitors per year enjoy attractions such as roller coasters, haunted houses, old-fashioned roundabouts and the ferris wheel. Children love the family-friendly rides and games at Hamburg DOM. Next to the classic attractions and favourite highlights, new attractions are introduced at every installment of the fair.

More than 200 attractions

A stroll through the DOM funfair will take you by 1.6 kilometres of attractions along the way. More than 200 booths and diversions offer a colourful mixture of rides, roundabouts, snacks, sweets, baked goods and games to keep you warm. On Fridays, fireworks light the night sky at 10:30 p.m.
