Music lovers flock to Hamburg's Wilhelmsburg district to see international and local artists play at this summer music festival.

MS DOCKVILLE Music and Art Festival

Young, wild and hip: South of the Elbe river, in the district of Wilhelmsburg, the annual MS DOCKVILLE festival takes place in late August. Drawing 25,000 people, the three-day event offers a unique mix of music and art. From well-known fan favourites to the up-and-coming: more than 100 bands and solo artists will take the stage, while international creative minds get a chance to exhibit their work. In order to keep an overview of the many highlights, it is highly recommended to download the official festival app.

Situated on the banks of the Elbe river, the festival is beautifully located on Europe’s largest river island – right behind the dikes that protect Wilhelmsburg from flood waters. In order not to ruin this special piece of land, the festival pursues a more sustainable approach than most commercial festivals. Campgrounds are limited and motorised vehicles are not allowed.

To reach the festival site, we suggest using public transport, the shuttle busses or your bicycle. If you choose to bike, take the scenic route from the city through the fascinating Old Elbe Tunnel and along the dikes on the southern bank of the river. To reward yourself after the journey, culinary treats are readily available at the festival site, including many vegetarian and vegan options.

Leading up to MS DOCKVILLE is the two-week-long MS ARTVILLE festival. Taking place at the same location as MS DOCKVILLE, this event and art exhibition has an even stronger focus on visual artists from around the world.
