Authentic History

Originally built as a hunting lodge for a prince, Ludwigslust Palace is known as the 'Little Versailles in Mecklenburg'.
With the original ornaments and decoration still in tact or under renovation, guests can get a real taste of the beauty of the castle - see the old fireplaces and mirrors, glide along the parquet flooring and admire the old chandeliers.

Art at Ludwigslust

As well as this, visitors can enjoy the impressive collection of art. Amongst other things, there are antique clocks, busts created by the renowned French sculptor Jean Antoine Houdon, and a silver and art chamber. Guests can also enjoy a huge reconstructed art gallery, with art from the court painters Matthieu, Findorff, Suhrlandt and Lisiewsky.

Tours and the Grounds

Why not take a guided tour based on your interests? Guests can enjoy tours on most days, and there are also tours available for children and educational events. There are even festive events, such as concerts, which are held in the Golden Hall between May and September, which are very popular amongst guests both young and old.  

The castle grounds are also worth exploring ─ dating back to the 18th century, it has many grand castle elements, such as avenues, canals and water jumps fit for Kings and Queens!

The castle remains closed on Mondays.
