The food industry is one of the most important economic sectors in northern Germany. It comprises around 2,000 companies in Hamburg as well as a further 2,500 companies in the Hamburg metropolitan region and employs around 123,000 people. The industry has now been brought together in a newly established food cluster to improve networking.

Strong Network for a Strong Industry

Founded in September 2024, Food Cluster Hamburg is the central interest group for the food industry in the Hamburg metropolitan region. Their goal is to bring companies, research institutions, start-ups and political decision-makers closer together in order to spot opportunities and develop solutions to the challenges of our time.

As a port city, Hamburg has the potential to become an international beacon of the food industry. Food Cluster Hamburg aims to leverage this potential by promoting sustainable foods that are based on ecological, economic and social sustainability – foods that are high-quality, affordable and delicious all at once.

Central Fields of Action

An essential aspect of cluster policy is fostering cooperation and networking between the parties involved in Food Cluster Hamburg, both with each other and with other stakeholders. Another focus is on knowledge and transfer, i.e. on programmes and events designed to share knowledge and promote knowledge transfer.

Food Cluster Hamburg aims to create an ideal environment in which innovation and transformation processes can flourish. Other important elements of the cluster's offerings revolve around fostering new business in the food sector, i.e. incentives for start-ups and founding new businesses as well as providing support services for founders.

Networking and Events

In addition to regular meetings and events, founders and start-ups can benefit from close ties to politics and academia, and there are opportunities for further education and training.
