Economic Clusters Healthcare
As an expanding healthcare region, Hamburg boasts research facilities, hospitals and networks of practices in a wide range of medical fields.
With an international reputation for great doctors and hospitals as well as an almost unmatched density of medical practises, Hamburg is among Germany’s and Europe’s leading cities in the healthcare sector.
More than 160,000 Hamburgers work in the healthcare sector, and counting. The metropolitan region comprises a total of 79 hospitals, including many internationally-renowned specialist clinics.
With so much expert knowledge gathered in this region, there is need for a governing body to further professional exchange and promote the city’s incentives.
The Gesundheitswirtschaft Hamburg GmbH (GWHH) is responsible for managing the healthcare cluster. As a subsidiary to the city of Hamburg as well as the Chamber of Commerce, the initiative teamed up with the Gesundheitsmetropole Hamburg association in order to attract even more experts to this beautiful city.
The cluster takes on a cross-sectoral approach (e.g. in cooperation with the life science cluster) that maximizes potential for growth, employment and quality.
