Camping and Motorhomes in and around Hamburg

In and around Hamburg, there are plenty of spots where you can enjoy nature to the fullest. There are several campgrounds along the river Elbe or in the green areas of Northern Hamburg for you to set up your tent or park your camper van. We've picked out some local favourites below:

ElbeCamp

The mighty river Elbe with its beaches and dykes provides the perfect backdrop for your tent, motorhome or caravan. Following the Elbe west from the city you'll come upon campsite ElbeCamp. This idyll by the beach is located only 15 km away from Hamburg yet is surrounded by nothing but nature.

Elbdeich Camping Kollmar

Further west along the Elbe is Elbdeich Camping Kollmar. Like the name suggests, this small-scale campsite is located behind the dyke. Whilst situated some 45 kms from Hamburg city centre, the campsite is only a short drive away from the quaint town of Glückstadt.

Lühesand

What about spending the night on an uninhabited river island? The campsite on tiny Lühesand, some 20 kms west of Hamburg, is family-owned and can only be reached with the family's ferryboat. Expect nothing but dunes, trees, birds and massive boats sailing by.

Camping Land

Turning our compasses and following the Elbe some 35 kms southeast of Hamburg, we come upon the family-owned Camping Land. This campsite by the sandy Strover beach welcomes campers with tents, camper vans and caravans who can choose their own spots in the park-like area.

Camping Strover

Along the same Strover Beach there is Camping Strover. This large campsite covers no less than 30 hectares and offers spaces for tents, campers and caravans and facilities like sports fields, restaurants and children's activity programmes.

Camping Knaus

Camping Knaus, located in the northern suburb of Hamburg-Schnelsen close to the A7 motorway, offers around 140 spaces for caravans, motorhomes and tents. Hamburg city centre can be reached in an hour using public transport.

Camping Großensee

Set beautifully by one of the many lakes in southeastern Schleswig-Holstein, Camping Großensee provides the perfect setting to a relaxed getaway in the middle of nature. Best of all? The campsite is only a 30 minute drive, or a 1 hour trip by public transport away!

RVs and Motorhomes

In the northern suburb Hamburg-Stellingen, campers with motorhomes and caravans can stay at Buchholz Camping. Closer to the city centre, there is the option to park your RV at Wohnmobilhafen in Hamburg Hammerbrook. South of Hamburg, ElbePark Bunthaus is located right by the Elbe river and offers 50 parking spaces surrounded by nature.
