Most famous for its stunning castle, Schwerin is a beautiful city full of exciting attractions.
The castle itself is located on a small island in Schwerin Lake, the castle was home to princes and dukes. The impressive rooms, including a throne room, invite visitors to talk a journey through history and admire art, furniture and wonderful view. Guests can also find out more about the history of the palace in the Palace Museum.
The castle gardens are also a stunning sight - combining nature and architecture, the gardens offer panoramic terraces and a stunning orangery.
Museums and Culture
The city of Schwerin also has much to be discovered. There is the Schwerin State Museum, dedicated to art, which houses a huge collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings, as well as Germany’s biggest collection of Marcel Duchamp work, plus contemporary art exhibitions.
Head outdoors and try the Open-Air Museum Schwerin Meuß. Here, guests can get a taste of the region’s history in the four traditional style houses, or walk through the fruit orchards on the grounds.
There are several theatres in Schwerin, including the Mecklenburg State Theatre, and once a year visitors can also enjoy the Open-Air Opera Festival, hosted in the palace.
On the Water
Visitors who come to Schwerin also have many opportunities to get outside and explore. Take a boat ride across the Schwerin Lake and admire the beautiful landscapes and the castle from a new perspective. Alternatively cruise on Lake Pfaffenteich. Guests are free to choose which pier to land at next, as there is no set schedule, making for a truly relaxing experience.
Discover the City
For kids, why not head to Schwerin Zoo and discover the amazing variety of animals, from bears to pigs, and even zebras. Get to know the city in more detail by taking a guided tour of the city, or head out into the countryside and admire the landscapes on a walk. Alternatively take a bike and cycle through the many natural reserves and beautiful surroundings.
