Alster to Elbe Route

Walking Route: From the Alster to the Elbe

From the Lessing statue on Gänsemarkt square, our way leads us to Jungfernstieg promenade on the Inner Alster lake. The Alsterhaus and Europa Passage malls are among Hamburg's best addresses for high quality shopping and the view of the lake and the Alster fountain provides the perfect background for your Hamburg selfie. The Alsterarkaden resemble Venice, the monument commemorates the casualties from both World Wars and the Alster swans are deeply ingrained in the city's self-image.

Just cross the bridge and find yourself enchanted by the beauty and sheer magnitude of Hamburg City Hall. Stroll along Neuer Wall for exclusive designer shopping until you turn left towards Rödingsmarkt. With its many former trading stations, this area takes you back to the Jugendstil days. Keep walking along the water until you reach the floodgate and, finally, the mighty Elbe river.
