You’re new to Hamburg and could use some help with finding your feet? The Hamburg Welcome Center is an official city authority office that provides a wide range of services for newcomers in Hamburg, all under one roof.

Newcomers’ services

At the Hamburg Welcome Center, staff will answer your questions about housing, the German healthcare system, foreign driving licenses, language courses and the local job market. Families can inquire about daycare facilities, the school system and family benefits. This service is free of charge.

Administration services

International professionals, scientists, self-employed, students and their families can turn to the Welcome Center to arrange the legal aspects of immigration. Services include:

  • Address registration
  • Residency permit application and extension
  • Visa extension for business visitors
  • Acceptance of formal obligations
  • Certificate of good conduct application

Counselling Centre for the Recognition of Qualifications

Anyone with a foreign qualification is welcome to get in touch with the Counselling Centre for the Recognition of Qualifications (Zentrale Anlaufstelle für Anerkennung ─ ZAA). In a personal consultation, you’ll receive advice about foreign qualification validation in Hamburg.

Make it in Hamburg!

The ‘Make it in Hamburg!’ team at the Welcome Center helps international professionals, skilled workers, apprentices, accompanying life partners, foreign students and graduates from universities in and around Hamburg to integrate into the labour market. Services include intercultural workshops, job interview trainings and further education counselling.
