Fantasy Film Fest

Fantasy FilmFest Hamburg

Don't expect dragons, elves and gnomes on the screen at the Fantasy FilmFest. This festival celebrates the darker side of the fantastic. Established in Hamburg in 1987, the Fantasy FilmFest celebrates new releases in niche categories, from indie horror and psychological thrillers to science-fiction and dystopia. Today the annual festival is held in seven German cities and screens more than 50 films.

In Hamburg, the 11-day festival is held at Savoy cinema, one of the city's most beloved original language cinemas. In the schedule, look for films indicated as 'eng OV' for English-language movies or 'OmeU' for English subtitles. After each screening, audiences will be asked to rate movies. On the last day of the festival, the best-rated contribution will win the 'Fresh Blood' award.

Thrill seekers have several chances a year to get their adrenaline shots from this unique film festival: the main event every autumn, as well as Fantasy White Nights in winter and Fantasy Nights in spring.

A limited number of full festival passes are available several months before general ticket sales begin. Approximately two weeks before each festival, regular tickets go on sale at Savoy
