Fantasy FilmFest Hamburg
Don't expect dragons, elves and witches on the screen at the Fantasy Filmfest: This festival rather celebrates the darker side of fantasy. Established in Hamburg in 1987, the Fantasy Filmfest gives an overview of the many new releases in niche categories from horror to science-fiction. Today, the annual festival is held in seven German cities and shows more than 50 different movies — from “A” of adrenaline to “Z” of zombie.
In Hamburg, the 11-day festival will be held at Savoy cinema, where films are generally shown in the original language. In the schedule, look for films indicated as “eng OV” for English-language movies or “OmeU” for English subtitles. After each screening, audiences will be asked to rate movies. On the last day of the festival, the best-rated contribution will be announced the winner of the “Fresh Blood” award. In addition, an audience award will be handed to the best short film of the festival.
