Logistics Initiative Hamburg
Logistics Initiative Hamburg Cluster
The Hamburg harbour has been the region’s economic driving force and an international hub for many centuries. With over 3,000 export companies, 400 of them Chinese, Hamburg is among Europe’s leading cities in foreign trade. Together with the many warehousing, transport, shipping and mail order companies that cover the German market, 154,000 Hamburgers work in the logistics industry.
To further promote and develop this multifaceted industry, the State Ministry of Economic and Labour Affairs and Hamburg’s business community established the Logistics Initiative Hamburg. Today, this cluster functions as a governing body for 470 different companies.
The cluster’s goal is to strengthen the bond between business, science and research in the city as well as the surrounding metropolitan region (with an additional 80,000 people working in the logistics industry). Innovation is promoted and constant knowledge exchange is organised, helping all members to prosper and grow. To this end, the cluster organizes regular workshops and conferences, establishes cross-sectoral research groups and maintains close contact to the region’s universities.
The initiative lends its voice to the companies and functions as a stakeholder for their ideas, requirements and interests. Furthermore, it aims at creating new jobs in the region as well as promoting Hamburg as a first-class business location.
